Laser cutting process

 

Laser cutting process is a technology that uses a high-power density laser beam to irradiate the material to be cut, causing it to melt, vaporize, ablate or reach the ignition point quickly, and blows away the molten material through a high-speed airflow coaxial with the beam, thereby achieving workpiece cutting.

Process characteristics
High efficiency: Laser cutting is fast and efficient, and can significantly reduce processing time.
High precision: The diameter of the laser beam after focusing is very small (such as about 0.1mm), which can achieve high-precision cutting.
Small thermal impact: Due to the high concentration of energy, only a small amount of heat is transferred to other parts of the steel, causing little or no deformation.
Strong adaptability: Suitable for cutting various metal and non-metal materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium steel, plastic, wood, etc.
High flexibility: Laser cutting equipment usually uses computerized numerical control technology (CNC) devices, which can achieve cutting of complex shapes.

Process steps
Laser beam focusing: Use lenses and reflectors to focus the laser beam on a very small area to form a high-power density laser beam.
Material heating: The laser beam irradiates the surface of the workpiece, causing the irradiated material to be quickly heated to the vaporization temperature, evaporating to form holes.
Continuous cutting: As the beam moves relative to the material, the holes continuously form a narrow slit, completing the cutting of the material.
Melt removal: During the cutting process, a jet of air is usually used to blow the melt away from the incision to ensure the cutting quality.

Laser cutting process types:
Vaporization cutting: Under the heating of a high-power density laser beam, the surface temperature of the material rises to the boiling point very quickly, and part of the material vaporizes into steam and disappears, forming an incision.
Melting cutting: The metal material is melted by laser heating, and then a non-oxidizing gas is sprayed through a nozzle coaxial with the beam. The liquid metal is discharged by the strong pressure of the gas to form an incision.
Oxidation melting cutting: The laser is used as a preheating heat source, and active gases such as oxygen are used as cutting gases. The sprayed gas reacts with the cutting metal to produce an oxidation reaction, releasing a large amount of oxidation heat, and at the same time, the molten oxide and melt are blown out of the reaction zone to form an incision in the metal.
Controlled fracture cutting: High-speed, controlled cutting through laser beam heating, mainly used for brittle materials that are easily damaged by heat.
