The main elements of carbon steel include
Iron (Fe): As the basic element of carbon steel, it accounts for the vast majority of the proportion.
Carbon (C): The named element of carbon steel, its content is between 0.0218% and 2.11%. The carbon content directly affects the hardness and strength of carbon steel.

Impurities and alloying elements
Silicon (Si): Carbon steel usually contains a small amount of silicon, and its content is generally within a certain range. The specific value varies according to the purpose and type of carbon steel. Silicon can improve the strength and hardness of steel, while affecting the weldability of steel.
Manganese (Mn): Manganese is also a common element in carbon steel, and its content is about 0.25%~0.80%. Manganese can be used as a solid solution strengthening element to remove FeO and reduce the brittleness of steel. At the same time, it synthesizes MnS with sulfide to reduce the harmful effects of sulfur.
Sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P): As impurity elements in carbon steel, although the content is very low, it will also affect the performance of carbon steel. For example, the presence of sulfur will reduce the toughness and weldability of steel, while phosphorus will increase the strength and hardness of steel, but too much will reduce the plasticity and toughness of steel.

Other alloying elements
Carbon steel may also contain other alloying elements, such as chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), etc., which are added mainly to improve the properties of carbon steel, such as corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance.
