Anodizing process
Anodizing process is a surface treatment technology for metals (especially aluminum and its alloys). By applying current in a specific electrolyte, a dense oxide film is formed on the metal surface. The main features are:
Protective: The formed oxide film can effectively protect the metal surface and prevent corrosion and wear.
Decorative: The oxide film can be dyed in various colors to enhance the appearance of the product.
Functional: The oxide film has good insulation, heat resistance and corrosion resistance.
Main steps
Cleaning: Thoroughly remove impurities such as oil and dust on the surface of aluminum products to ensure a clean surface. This usually includes chemical cleaning and mechanical cutting methods.
Degreasing: Use solvents or alkaline solutions to remove oil from the surface to ensure the quality of the oxide coating.
Anodic treatment:
The aluminum product is suspended on the anode in the electrolytic cell.
The electrolyte is usually sulfuric acid, chromic acid, oxalic acid, etc. Sulfuric acid anodizing is the most common one.
After power is turned on, an aluminum oxide film is formed on the surface of the aluminum product under the action of the current. The thickness of this film is usually between 5 and 30 microns, and the hard anodized film can reach 25 to 150 microns.
Sealing treatment: Since the oxide film on the surface of aluminum products will produce micropores after anodizing, sealing treatment is required. This can be achieved by hot water vapor, nickel plating or passivation to improve the corrosion resistance and hardness of the oxide film.
Dyeing treatment (optional): After the sealing treatment, the aluminum product can be immersed in a color juice containing dyes to allow the dyes to penetrate into the oxide layer to form oxide films of different colors.
Sealing treatment (optional): After the dyeing treatment, in order to further improve the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the oxide layer, a layer of sealing treatment can be performed. This is usually done by hot water vapor, oil seals, cold water immersion, etc.
Influencing factors
The composition and concentration of the electrolyte: The composition, concentration and purity of the electrolyte will affect the quality and performance of the oxide film.
Temperature conditions: The temperature during the anodizing process has a great influence on the quality of the oxide film. It is generally controlled between minus 15-30℃.
Ionic strength: The ionic strength in the electrolyte is directly related to the hardness of the oxide film. When the ionic strength is low, the hardness of the oxide film is also low.
Current density: The current density has a great influence on the thickness and average pore size of the oxide film. The greater the current density, the larger the average pore size of the oxide film, and the thickness of the film layer increases accordingly.
