What is the process of hot-dip galvanizing?

 Hot-dip galvanizing is a metal protection process that forms a zinc coating on the surface of steel products by immersing them in molten zinc liquid. 

  • Process principle
    The idea behind hot-dip galvanizing is to submerge the steel in 450°C of molten zinc liquid. Zinc and steel surface react chemically to generate a layer of zinc-iron alloy, which is followed by the formation of a pure zinc protective coating on the exterior. In order to stop corrosion, the zinc layer can successfully shield the steel from airborne moisture and oxygen.

  • The course of the process
    Surface treatment: To guarantee that there are no impurities on the surface to improve the adherence of the zinc layer, the steel is first cleaned by rust removal, degreasing, and other surface cleaning procedures.
    Galvanizing: The treated steel is immersed in molten zinc liquid, and the zinc and the steel surface are alloyed by high temperature.
    Cooling: After galvanizing, the steel is taken out of the zinc liquid and cooled to form a uniform zinc coating.
    Inspection: Through thickness measurement and surface inspection, ensure that the quality of the zinc layer meets the anti-corrosion standards.

  • Main features
    Outstanding anti-corrosion performance: Steel constructions exposed to corrosive or humid conditions over an extended period of time are best suited for the zinc coating's exceptional anti-corrosion qualities. The steel can be shielded from oxidation and corrosion by the coating.
    Self-repairing capacity: There is some self-repairing capacity to the hot-dip galvanized coating. Through electrochemical processes, the zinc will continue to shield the underlying steel even if minor dings or scratches emerge on the surface.
    Protection for a long time: Depending on the particular use environment, the hot-dip galvanized coating can last up to twenty years. It works well in situations when regular maintenance would be inconvenient.
    High-strength bonding: The zinc layer has a high bonding strength with the steel, and the coating is not easy to peel or fall off, and has excellent impact resistance and wear resistance.

    Building structure: Widely used in beams, columns, frames, brackets, etc. in steel structure buildings, especially bridges, railings, scaffolding, etc. in outdoor environments.
